Anchor Steam’s roots go back to the Gold Rush, long before icehouses and modern refrigeration made traditional lagers a viable California option. In 1876, thanks to an ice pond in the mountains and a belief that anything is possible in the Golden State, a little brewery named Boca created California’s first genuine lager. Anchor California Lager is our re-creation of this historic beer. Made in San Francisco with two-row California barley, Cluster hops (the premier hop in 19th-century California), and our own lager yeast, this all-malt brew is krausened and lagered in our cellars. Its golden color, distinctive aroma, creamy head, balanced depth of flavor, and smooth finish make Anchor California Lager a delicious celebration of California’s unique brewing heritage.

About Anchor Brewing Co
Anchor Brewing Company was founded in 1896 and was purchased by Frederick Louis Maytag III in 1965, saving it from closure. It moved to its current location in 1979. It is one of the last remaining breweries to produce California common beer, also known as Steam Beer, a trademark owned by the company.
Delivery Information
We currently offer both a local delivery service and a nationwide shipping option. Local delivery is available for addresses within a 5-mile radius of WF8 1AQ, with the fee depending on distance and calculated at checkout. For customers outside this area, we offer nationwide shipping options. We use a next day liquid service to ensure rapid delivery, employing robust and secure packaging to safeguard your products. Orders placed before 1pm are usually handed over to the courier the same day for delivery on the next working day. However, whilst most deliveries should arrive the next working day, this cannot be guaranteed as delays can occur within the courier network that are beyond our control.
